A massive 25% drop was observed in terms of USD traded between Q1 and Q2 2022 with a global volume of about US$8 billion in Q2 2022.

A net profit of US$460M is recorded over Q2 2022, a significant decrease compared to Q1 2022 (US$2.3B).

The general public seems to be losing interest in NFTs, if the search volume on Google is to be believed.

<p>In a community-based way, <a href="https://heroez.gg/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Heroez</a> seeks to create a new form of esports team management that is more respectful of fan opinion while removing unnecessary fees and trusted third parties.</p>

<p>Humans have been playing gambling since at least 5000 BC when sheep knucklebones were used as dice by the Sumarians in ancient Mesopotamia, with the first familiar six sided dice discovered in Iraq and Iran around 3000 BC.&nbsp; </p>



<p>From those early&nbsp;times we have endlessly looked for new ways to gamble in spite of any prohibitions. Today, this tendency has been propelled into hyper speed by the impetus of new technologies, with NFTs being the new frontier. The data proves the pattern: in 2021 the market size of the global online gambling and betting industry was $61.5B USD. According to Statista, <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/270728/market-volume-of-online-gaming-worldwide/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">that market will grow to $114.4B USD by 2028</a> for an increase of more than 86 percent. </p>



<p>When we see that <a href="https://sorare.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sorare</a>, an NFT fantasy football game platform, <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2021/09/20/sorare-raises-680-million-for-its-fantasy-sports-nft-game" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">raised $680 million USD in a Series B funding</a> round, it&#8217;s clear that non-fungible tokens will be part of that growth.&nbsp;</p>



<h2>Sports Betting</h2>



<p>Paris-based Sorare presents an NFT-driven sports card platform where baseball and football fans can build teams from the NFT cards they&#8217;ve collected. The first cards were minted on the Ethereum blockchain. Today, they use a Starkware sidechain to reduce the transaction fees and scale the possibilities of the game. A player&#8217;s teams can in turn be entered into fantasy competitions that provide rewards paid out in ETH.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Unfortunately for the brand, <a href="https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/news/article/consumer-information-notice-sorare-com" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sorare has run afoul of regulators in Great Britain</a> who claim that the business&#8217; operations are unlicensed and constitute unregulated gambling. Since the UK Gambling Commission&#8217;s initial statement in October of 2021, there have been no new announcements from the regulator. <a href="https://medium.com/sorare/official-statement-5349bcf5f7da" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sorare disputes the UK regulator&#8217;s claims</a>. To a casual reader, it may seem like the Gambling Commission is over-reacting. However, <a href="https://www.laliga.com/en-GB/news/laliga-partners-with-sorare-to-enter-the-world-of-nfts" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sorare has most of the world&#8217;s top 100 soccer teams</a> under contract and has sold over $130M in the space in 2021 which would seem to indicate otherwise.</p>



<p>We want to make a distinction here that may be evident to those more experienced in the realm of blockchain: <strong>NFTs and cryptocurrencies are not the same thing</strong>. Therefore, receiving payment in the form of ETH is often very different from receiving an NFT. In brief, and this may be disputed by some in the crypto community, cryptocurrency can be considered a security as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) defines the term.</p>



<p>This is because cryptocurrency is a means to hold, gain, or transfer an investment. NFTs, on the other hand, can simply offer utility or be collectible. Without the indication of a return on investment for a common purpose (see the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/personal-finance/howey-test" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Howey test for assets)</a>&nbsp;it can be more difficult to decide whether an NFT is an asset for legal reasons. </p>

<h2>Metaverse Casinos Controversies</h2>



<p>While fun for some folks, casinos have historically been associated with a variety of illegal activities. That trend has manifested in new ways thanks to Flamingo Casino Club and Sand Vegas Casino. Each project represents much of what can go awry in tech-forward, online ventures. These two instances exemplify the need to understand the fundamentals of the crypto and NFT space before investing.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<h3>Flamingo Casino Club</h3>



<p><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/states-accuse-metaverse-flamingo-casino-club-russian-ties-nft-scam-2022-5" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flamingo Casino Club</a><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/states-accuse-metaverse-flamingo-casino-club-russian-ties-nft-scam-2022-5?r=US&amp;IR=T" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> does not exist in the metaverse or real world</a>. There is no connection between it and the Flamingo Casino in Las Vegas, as the project claims. It is, according to regulators from the states of Texas, Wisconsin, Kentucky, New Jersey, and Alabama, a scam. The owners provide no information as to their location or identities and the digital trail leads back to an IP in Russia, which regulators say lowers the chance that investors can recover their funds significantly.</p>



<h3>Sand Vegas Casino</h3>



<p>The Sand Vegas Casino, apparently based in Cyprus, has angered regulators in Texas which is quite an achievement! The state alleges that this casino has traded in unregulated securities. This is because the club forecasted profit-sharing from its Gambling Apes NFT collection. As a precaution, <a href="https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/04/22/opensea-suspends-trading-of-sands-vegas-casino-club-nfts/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">OpenSea halted trading of the NFTs</a> in the Spring of 2022.</p>



<h2>Legitimate Use Cases for Legitimate Casinos</h2>

<p>Real-world casinos have been earlier adopters of tech such as facial recognition and big data. These technologies allow them to better serve customers, limit fraud, and respect folks who&#8217;ve banned themselves from establishment premises. <p><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/01/style/zed-run-horse-racing.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zed Run</a> is a popular NFT game on the Matic network. Like the cryptokitties of yore with more gaming potential and interaction, the horses in NFT form each possess their own DNA. <p>Silks Horses will be the central element of the game. Once a horse is registered as a thoroughbred racehorse in the US, its digital equivalent will be created in Silks. Each Silks Horse NFT will then track the lineage, training progress, and racing results of its real-world counterpart.</p>



<p>Silks Avatars will represent each player’s unique identity in the Silks ecosystem. They will allow the public to identify who owns the different horses, land and stables in the game. Also, it will be necessary to buy a Silks Horse as well as receive rewards when their real-world thoroughbred wins a race.</p>

<p>Beyond appearance, <a href="https://www.voxies.io/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Voxies</a> have different classes and races as in an MMORPG, these are distinguished by several advantages on the field and will define the role of Voxies in the game.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Each individual Land of Neoland will be an NFT hosted on the Solana blockchain. Owning a LAND will open up many advantages such as passive income and also a very large number of other possibilities.</p>

<p>The fungible tokens of the game are called the $NLAND and its possible to earn them in two ways. First of all, the in-game reward mechanics that will ensure passive income.</p>

<p>Each NFT consists of 8 elements: an object for the chest, foot, hand, head, neck, height, adventurer&#8217;s weapon and ring type. No graphics, just a black image with 8 lines of white text. The project bags are numbered 1 &#8211; 7,777 will be able to be claimed by anyone, while bags 7778 to 8000 will be reserved for the project developer.</p>



<h2>Project Genesis or Genesis Adventurers</h2>



<p>The Genesis Project (for Loot) is under construction and wants to &#8220;resurrect&#8221; the origins of Loot.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Timshel is one of the most active members of the community with one of his main responsibilities creating a story for the Loot universe. This initiative was born out of an investigation into the smart contract that created Loot, which contained more detail than anyone imagined. For example, it contained 16 classes or categories of objects.&nbsp;</p>



<p>By collecting a perfect set of 8 Genesis Mana from a single Order, corresponding to the 8 item types (i.e. weapon, head armor, chest armor, etc.) players can resurrect a Genesis Adventurer using a 2nd smart contract. The Loot Foundation claims that the smart contract would comprise a primitive collection with 2,540 Genesis Loot. About 414 Adventurers have already been resurrected.</p>

<h3>More Loot</h3>



<p>More Loot (mLoot) was another airdrop of Loot items that gave many more users access to the game. When Hofmann launched it in early September, it created more than 1.3 million additional Loot, with an expanding supply that will create about 250,000 additional bags per year.</p>



<h3>Synthetic Loot</h3>



<p>Synthetic Loot (sLoot) is a virtual form of loot that every ETH address has automatically and does not need to mint. Developers who build on Loot can easily integrate it into their projects.</p>



<h2><strong>Loot treasury</strong></h2>



<p>In October, the Loot.exchange team launched a &#8220;Royalty DAO&#8221; funded by a portion of the Loot.exchange trading fees. Shortly after, the Loot community voted to implement a 5% royalty on OpenSea and all other marketplaces to fund royalties in the same DAO.&nbsp;</p>



<p>On December 25, the first Loot Royalty DAO proposal &#8220;Retroactive Public Goods Funding &#8211; Round 1&#8221; was unanimously passed allocating 25 ETH to projects selected by the community.</p>



<p>Retroactive funding allocated treasury funds to these projects for past work, motivating them to continue building the loot ecosystem.</p>



<p>How the funds are spent is entirely up to the community. Its scope is deliberately limited. It does not seek to be &#8220;The DAO”, but rather “a DAO”. For now, its only function is to manage the treasure trove of royalties collected from the Loot Exchange. The Loot Royalty DAO currently possess a treasure equal to 144 ETH or about $500,000.</p>



<h2><strong>Other community initiatives</strong></h2>



<p>In the meantime, many community projects have already been launched and have created new resources for Loot users. Here are some examples:</p>



<h3><strong>Toolkit</strong></h3>



<p>Loot Exchange&nbsp;: A marketplace with 0% fees where you can buy and sell 3 collections: Loot, Genesis and mLoot.</p>



<p><a href="https://0xinventory.app/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">0xinventory.app</a>&nbsp;: a tool to classify Loot items by color and rarity.</p>



<h3><strong>Derivatives</strong></h3>



<p><strong>The Adventure Gold Token (AGLD)</strong>: a governance token for story creation that is already being used to vote on Chapter 1 of Loot. The token was distributed to the community via an airdrop. Thus, each holder of an NFT Loot had the opportunity to claim 10,000 AGLD tokens.</p>



<p><strong>Realms</strong> were one of the very first Loot derivatives to be released and basically contain some of the elements needed for the foundations of a functional metaverse.</p>



<p>We can also mention other Loot related projects such as <strong>Loot Rarity, MetaFactory DivineDAO, Loot Chararcter, A Quest for Adventurers</strong>.</p>



<h2><strong>Lootverse is Coming</strong></h2>



<p>Today, the trading volume on Loot does not exceed 200 ETH in a 7-day and less than 8 Loot NFTs change hands daily. The floor price is currently 1.75 ETH or about $5563.</p>



<p>Currently, 2,541 wallets hold at least one NFT with an average of 3 per wallet. 25.3% of the collections supply is held by the top 25 wallets, which is a significant proportion.</p>



<p>To put it shortly, it seems that the project is at an important point in its life cycle. While just a small number of die-hards continue to focus on building the Lootverse, a large portion seem to have turned their attention elsewhere.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Loot is a truly innovative concept that will undoubtedly be remembered as a pioneer in its field. But the extent of its impact will be determined by the ability of the community to grow. These are the same questions that were asked in the early days of the project, but several months later, they are still just as open.</p>



<p>What Loot has already accomplished, however, should not be underestimated and the creativity of the community is more than impressive.</p>

<h2><strong>Introduction to the Wizards and Dragons Game (WnD)</strong></h2>



<p><a href="https://wnd.game/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wizards &amp; Dragons</a> is a <strong>100% on-chain strategy game</strong> combining NFTs and a token. The project was launched on December 1st from a fork of the <a href="https://wolf.game/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wolf Game</a> project. Like its big brother, the metadata and pixel art are stored entirely on-chain on Ethereum (ETH). In other words, the game does not use the Inter Planetary File System (IPFS) or API. </p>



<p>We can read on the project’s Medium blog:</p>

<p>The game consists of staking Dragons and Wizards to earn $GP tokens. Tokens have different attributes and affect the number of tokens that players can potentially earn. With the tokens earned players can mint new Dragons and Wizards to earn more tokens.</p>



<p>As you may have guessed, Dragons are rarer and have more interesting features allowing players to earn and steal GP tokens. It is important to know that the superior abilities of Dragons make their market value 5 times greater than Wizards. The floor price for dragons on OpenSea is currently 0.57 ETH while wizards are currently selling for around 0.11 ETH.</p>



<h2><strong>GamePlay of Wizard and Dragons</strong></h2>



<p>Players should stake their Wizards and Dragons to be able to participate in the game and earn tokens.</p>

<p>The wizards earn 12,000 GP per day guarding the tower. They have made an ancient agreement with the dragons and since then, dragons should stay away from the wizards guarding the tower. In exchange, the dragons receive 20% of the GP earned by the wizards.</p>



<p>In addition, it is dangerous for wizards to leave the Tower. There is a 50% chance that all accumulated tokens will be stolen by dragons. Players must then use the GP tokens to mint new NFTs. Currently, players should collect more than 60,000 GP to mint, they have a 90% chance of getting a dragon and a 10% chance of getting a wizard.</p>



<h2><strong>Other game mechanics&nbsp;</strong></h2>



<p>Players can also pay tribute to the Tower by throwing GP tokens into the pit. In this way, the Tower will recognize your gesture and give you a mysterious item in return, which will be useful in Act 2 and 3 of the game.</p>



<p>Finally, players can also sacrifice a wizard or a dragon on the altar.</p>



<p>The Tower will recognize your total and unwavering faith and will grant you in return an extremely rare mysterious item, which will be useful to direct and control the pace of battles in Acts&nbsp;2 and 3.</p>

<p>WnD has also provided a mechanism called the Treasure Chest, which, if kept in a user’s wallet, reduces the probability of a dragon stealing GP tokens from 10% to 5%. A Treasure Chest will cost 25,000 GP Tokens, or about $222 at a price of $0.0089 per token.</p>



<h2><strong>A fork of Wolf Game</strong></h2>



<p>Wizards and Dragons Game, fork of Wolf Game, seems to be taking its place under the sun. Indeed, Wolf Game was put on hold because of several vulnerabilities affecting the gameplay. But the Wizards team managed to fix the main flaws of the open-source code. For example, Wizards &amp; Dragons distinguished itself from other Wolf Game forks by fixing a randomization issue, which determines whether users get a wizard or a dragon.</p>



<p>A vulnerability suffered by Wolf Game also forced the project to go through a migration process. This involves locking the original NFTs and replicating them within a new smart-contract.</p>



<p>Currently, the WnD collection has already generated 9300 Ether (ETH) on OpenSea against 19,300 ETH for Wolf Game (old collection&nbsp;13,600 ETH + migrated collection&nbsp;5700 ETH). A great success for the Wizards &amp; Dragons project which has managed to erase the flaws of its big brother and propose a plot and promising development prospects with Act&nbsp;2 and 3.</p>

<p>Credits are the universal in-game currency burnt upon most in-game applications. They are required by players for almost every in-game action, including but not limited to:<br></p>

<p>With the main purpose of Credits being staking as collateral to produce new cNFT Ships and Modules, which in the future could be used as collateral themselves, enabling lending against game assets.<br><br>After the initial distribution of Credits, players can only acquire them when they purchase Crates, which are containers with valuable game items and the only source for original Blueprint required to build spaceships. <h2><strong>Genesis of the Loot project</strong></h2>



<p>In late august the founder of Vine, Dom Hofmann, launched <a href="https://www.lootproject.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Loot (for Adventurers)</a>, a non-fungible token (NFT) collection of 8 RPG game items. <strong>No graphics</strong>, just a black image with 8 white text lines.</p>



<p>Thus, the Loot project is a game-like construction, an <strong>open experiment</strong> that is just starting on Ethereum. According to the creator, Loot could be described as a &#8220;randomized adventurer gear project&#8221;.</p>

<p>Normally, NFTs projects have a <strong>top-down approach</strong>. Creators launch and propose profile pictures, for example, and then develop the ecosystem to bring more value to NFTs (events, governance etc.)</p>

<h2><strong>What is the Gameplay?</strong></h2>



<p>The goal of the game is to collect cards and build decks in order to fight with each other online. At the beginning, the game will be available on PC, but it is expected to become available for <strong>mobile phones</strong> as well.</p>



<p>The game is on its first stages of development and we do not know much about its gameplay. However, the Parallel has the potential of innovation for TCGs (<strong>trading card games</strong>) type and will add mechanisms of original games.</p>



<p>The basic gameplay will be 1vs.1 with prebuild decks. Each deck will consist of <strong>40 cards approximately</strong>. The decks can be built with the mix of special cards of one of 5 colonies as well as with universal cards.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the time it took to write their <a href="https://whitepaper.axieinfinity.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Whitepaper</a> and create a legal entity, <strong>Sky Mavis</strong>, the market had collapsed and the general public had lost interest in the crypto universe which had proved to be <strong>too volatile for their taste</strong>.</p>



<p>But for those who had taken a close interest in CryptoKitties, <strong>the potential of the ERC-721 standard</strong> that had been accepted in early 2018 was undeniable: In addition to actually owning an asset and trading it on a secondary market, it was now possible to obtain it as a <strong>reward</strong> for efforts and time spent participating in a project.</p>

Like all dApps on Ethereum, Axie Infinity suffered the full brunt of high transaction fees due to the raging <strong>DeFi Summer</strong>. </p>

<p>Since the early versions of the game,<strong> the graphics have undergone several major evolutions</strong> with the progressive aim of moving away from the style of Pokémon. The unique Chainmonsters visual identity really took hold after the end of the Kickstater and was given a facelift.</p>



<p>Certain mechanisms are inherent in this style of play, for example <strong>statistics</strong>, <strong>attributes </strong>or <strong>family</strong>.</p>

<p>The game is currently in an alpha phase, so this means that the various interactions with the blockchain are still on the testnet and that the interface may still be modified in the future. But <strong>there&#8217;s more to this alpha</strong> than giving the community a chance to acclimatize to the game&#8217;s atmosphere and mechanics before anyone else.</p>



<p>As mentioned above, Chainmonsters uses the mechanics of <strong>turn-based RPGs</strong> to bring a more strategic dimension to combat. Here is the essential information that frames the Chainmon:</p>

<p>Each Chainmon can have up to two traits, which grant very specific bonuses. Here are some examples of traits:</p>



<ul><li>Arcane Intellect (increases crit chance)</li><li>Hasty (slightly increases speed gain on levelup)</li><li>Brave (slightly increases attack gain on levelup)</li><li>Relaxed (slightly decreased speed gain on levelup)</li></ul>



<p>Of course, the effects will vary widely and will not necessarily affect the base elements of your Chainmon. It could be protections from <strong>poison </strong>or <strong>paralysis</strong>, the ability to <strong>not die all at once</strong> from a critical hit early in the game &#8230;</p>

<p>The Kickstarter rewards are NFTs with several uses: get access to the alpha but also exclusive costumes, and most importantly, a <strong>mysterious ticket</strong> or the <strong>Crystal Starter Chainmon</strong>.</p>

<p>These last two are particularly interesting because while the mysterious ticket <strong>grants you time-exclusive access to an island at least 12 months in advance to capture legendary Chainmons</strong>, crystal allows you to have a &#8220;chainmon starter&#8221; (ie one of the first three monsters that will be possible to choose at the start of the adventure) <strong>which is rarer and with better characteristics</strong>.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While it may play into the balance of a battle, this style of gameplay also relies on the strategic aspect of the combat actions chosen by the players. Since NFTs are supposed to guarantee immutability once they are created, it is important to think carefully about how they will be used in the long run.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Too much bonus would cause imbalance in the game, but the reward must still match the support of the community.</p>



<h2><strong>What are the next steps?</strong></h2>



<p>Knowing that the game is already available in a test version on <strong>PC</strong>, <strong>Android </strong>and <strong>IOS</strong>, the porting stage to different platforms is already well advanced, but the work is far from over. Indeed, for the moment everything is taking place on the testnet, the various objects or Chainmon present in the game are therefore <strong>not yet live on the mainnet</strong>.</p>



<p>Although the combat architecture and graphics are already well thought out, <strong>there is still a lot to discover</strong>. There is of course the discovery of all the Chainmons (there are only <a href="https://chainmonsters.fandom.com/wiki/Chainmon_species#List_of_Chainmon_Species" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">34 that have been revealed so far</a>) but also how the players will be able to interact with each other.</p>
